PM Sharif has lost ‘moral credibility’, should offer his resignation: Farooq Sattar

KARACHI: The pressure on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resign after the damning Joint Investigation Team report seeming to be piling up as the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM-P) also called for his resignation.

MQM-P Farooq Sattar on Tuesday said the prime minister has lost the moral credibility and should immediately resign. “The Prime Minister has lost all moral credibility and should immediately offer his resignation,” he said.

Earlier, the MQM-P held a party meeting at the temporary headquarters in PIB Colony where they discussed a range of issues including the recent political situation, the JIT report’s findings, resignation of the prime minister, and the recent by-election defeat.

Farooq Sattar said that PM Sharif should reach a decision to come out of the political storm, and it is imperative that he should offer his resignation. He warned that the political situation may worsen if the premier is adamant and stay on the position.

He said the JIT has leveled serious charges against the prime minister, and it is necessary to have a system of accountability and justice in the country. He said there needs to strict legislation on tax evasion, concealment of assets, withholding income and other similar offences.

He stated that the Prime Minister and the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) had welcomed the formation of the JIT. He further said that attention should be given to corruption cases in the National Accountability Bureau.

He said that MQM-P had also accepted the JIT as it was constituted by the Supreme Court. However, the report should be linked to other JIT reports while those usurping the national wealth should be given an exemplary punishment.
