ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Justice (retd) Nasir ul Mulk has termed the death of dreaded Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leader Mullah Fazlullah, a significant development in the fight against terrorism.
The prime minister was talking to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Friday, who phoned him to confirm the death of Mullah Fazlullah who posed a threat to Pakistan’s security, PM Office said in a statement.
The prime minister thanked the Afghan president and said finally action had been taken against an enemy of the people and state of Pakistan. The news would be received throughout Pakistan with relief as Pakistanis had borne the brunt of TPP’s terrorist actions, he added.
Mullah Fazlullah as head of TTP continued to
coordinate terrorists actions against Pakistan while using Afghan territory. He was also responsible for the Army Public School attack in Peshawar in 2014 in which many young innocent lives were lost.President Ghani’s confirmation of Mullah Fazlullah’s killing underscored the importance of dealing with terrorists that threaten security of both the countries.
President Ghani also informed the prime minister about positive developments following the recent ceasefire announcement, which would help pave the way for the Afghan peace process to consolidate.
The prime minister assured the Afghan president of support to facilitate Afghan peace efforts that should remain Afghan-owned and Afghan-led.
The two leaders exchanged Eid greetings and best wishes for the people of the two countries.
