Poverty alleviation govt’s top priority, says PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday said poverty alleviation and uplifting the poor segments of society is top priority of the government.

He was talking to Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Chairperson Dr Sania Nashtar who called on him in Islamabad today. The BISP chairperson briefed the prime minister about the activities of the program.

Mr Khan said the government is preparing a comprehensive program that would not only help cater to the basic necessities of the poor people of the country temporarily but also play a key role to bring them out of poverty clutches.

He issued directives for a close coordination among different programs working to cope with the poverty alleviation challenges. He also directed the BISP to finalize a program for imparting skills to the unemployed people and meet the food necessities of the families below the poverty line.
