ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday stressed on the need to equitably distribute the benefits of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) amongst the federating units.
In a high-level meeting, the premier was briefed on the progress made during the sixth meeting of the Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) on CPEC in Beijing last month.
The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Water and Power Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal, Special Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Secretary to PM Fawad Hassan Fawad.
The premier expressed satisfaction over the progress on CPEC-related projects and said that due to successful economic policies of the government, international businesses were showing interest to invest in Pakistan.
About the establishment of industrial parks, the prime minister directed authorities concerned to begin the process of providing electricity, gas and telecommunication to the proposed sites.
PM Sharif was also informed that an agreement on 300 MW power project was made which would start working soon.
During the meeting, he was also told that China had agreed to consider and examine Indus Cascade projects in CPEC.
Later, the premier also congratulated Water and Power Ministry for securing the US$1.5 Billion Lahore-Matiari Transmission Line Project agreement to be funded under CPEC.
