Imran Khan directs for coordinated efforts against street crimes in Karachi

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday said coordination among rangers, police and other law enforcement agencies at every level was essential to curb street crimes in Karachi, ARY News reported.

“There should be better coordination among the agencies at federal and provincial levels to maintain peace and security across the country and especially in Karachi,” he said while chairing a meeting on law and order in Karachi.

The meeting was attended by Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Corp Commander Lt. Gen. Hamayun Aziz, Chief Secretary Sindh Azam Sulaiman Khan, Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Sualeh Farooqi, Director General Rangers Maj Gen Muhammad Saeed, IG Sindh Dr Syed Kaleem Imam, Secretary Home Abdul Qadir Qazi and senior officers.

The PM said law and order was high priority agenda of his government as without peace and stability economic potential of the country could not be harnessed.

“Karachi is financial capital of Pakistan and federal government will continue to offer full support to provincial government for law and order maintenance,” he said.

Appreciating the role of the law enforcement agencies in restoring peace in the city, Imran Khan observed that overall situation in Karachi had improved significantly due to the devotion and sacrifices of the LEAs.

The meeting was informed that overall 90 percent reduction occurred in the rate of heinous crimes since start of the Karachi operation.

Imran took strong exception to the cases of abduction of children in the city and sought a coordinated action against the criminals.

He called for urgent recovery of the children, providing relief to their parents.

The reason behind increasing crimes in Karachi was underclass of 0.25 million Bangladeshi and Afghan immigrants, he said.

“Since They do not get ID cards, passports, therefore they do not get jobs and even if they get one they get very low salary, hence they are compelled to do crimes,” he said announcing to give them proper identity cards.

He said he would fully cooperate with the Sindh government for the betterment of Karachi. He said terrorism had declined in the city, but street crimes had increased.

“The reason behind rise of street crimes is lack of education,” he said.
