PM Abbasi lacked leadership to end Faizabad sit-in: Imran

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday said that the army acting as mediator to end the Faizabad sit-in saved the nation from further chaos and anarchy as the incompetent government was incapable of handling the situation.

Addressing a press conference, the PTI chairman that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was with the ousted premier Nawaz Sharif in Raiwand, rather than showing leadership and handling the situation.

“If the army had not stepped in, it would create panic in the country. I expressed gratitude when I came to know that the situation had ended,” he said adding the army diffused the situation saving from further loss of life and property.

“Abbasi rather than showing leadership and handling the situation was with disqualified prime minister in Jati Umrah,” he said maintaining that Abbasi was more concerned about safeguarding the corruption of Nawaz Sharif.

Therefore, Imran Khan said that the only solution to get out of the current crisis is to hold early election. He criticised the unnecessary delay in the delimitation of constituencies and said  several countries including the United Kingdom have held snap elections.

Good opportunity to question Qatari prince

Reffering to visit of former Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hammad bin Jasim, the PTI chairman said that the Qatari prince who presented a fabricated letter to help Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers case is currently in Pakistan, and this is good opportunity to question him.

He said that the former Qatari premier cited security reasons when he was called to testify in front of the Supreme Court, but is now visiting to due his business interests and investments in Port Qasim terminal project.

Imran Khan said that Nawaz Sharif was travelling with a cavalcade while being accused of corruption, and need to be held accountable for siphoning millions out of the country.

He also criticised Khawaja Asif who he said despite holding dual portfolios had a work permit in UAE and received numeration worth 1.7 million rupees per month. He also criticised the performance of Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal.
