PM Abbasi, King of Jordan discuss bilateral relations, issues of mutual interest

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minster Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday received the King of Jordan Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein and discussed a range of issues and bilateral relations.

The dignitaries agreed to increase focus on enhancing bilateral trade and investment relations, and to make the bilateral trade currently at 75 million dollars commensurate with the excellent existing political ties between the two countries.

The meeting was followed by delegation level talks between the two sides which reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations and exchanged views on ways to further expand relations in several fields.

The two leaders reviewed regional situation, with particular focus on the Middle East in the aftermath of recognition of Jerusalem by Washington as the capital of Israel.

PM Abbasi expressed Pakistan’s unequivocal support for the just cause of Palestine and reiterated Pakistan’s rejection of the US decision.

He also briefed the visiting dignitary on the current situation along the Line on Control, and Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts and commitment towards regional peace and stability.

King Abdullah thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome accorded to him and his delegation.

Earlier, on arrival at the PM office, a formal reception in honor of King Abdullah was held. The national anthems of both the countries were played.

A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan armed forces presented guard of honor to the Jordanian King. A formation of three JF-17 Thunder Aircraft presented salute to the royal guest.

King Abdullah is visiting Pakistan after eleven years which is a reflection of the close brotherly relations existing between Pakistan and Jordan.
