Abbasi urges D-8 countries to focus on development, prosperity of people

ISTANBUL: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has urged the D-8 countries to focus on development, progress and prosperity of the people of the member countries.

PM Abbasi was addressing the ninth summit of the organization at Istanbul in Turkey on Friday.

He expressed the confidence that the group would continue its journey along the path of more robust mutual economic cooperation.

He also expressed Pakistan’s desire that the member countries should have stronger voice at international level.

He appreciated the theme

of the summit “Expanding Opportunities through Cooperation” and said it is in complete harmony with the post-2017 development agenda, visualizing sustainable development as one of the core elements of people-centric development.

Earlier, the D-8 Summit adopted the Istanbul Declaration 2017 and the D-8 Istanbul Plan of Action to inject further dynamism into the pace of progress of the Organization.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi who is representing Pakistan in the Summit handed over the chairmanship of D-8 organization to hosts Turkey.
