Peshawar High Court summons Secretary Defence, brigadier after judge’s car stopped at cantonment checkpoint

The Additional Registrar of the Peshawar High Court’s Bannu Bench has sent a written notice to the federal defence secretary, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tribal and Home Affairs Secretary, the Brigadier in charge of the 325 Brigade in Bannu and the Deputy Commissioner of Bannu  to appear before it after the official vehicle of the PHC judge Ikramullah Khan was stopped at an army checkpoint.

The letter says that at 5.30 pm on May 27, the judge’s official vehicle, escorted with his police squad, was stopped and that an “unjustified demand” was made asking him to show his “official card”. It also said that Justice Khan was “prevented” from entering Bannu Cantonment

where the Bench of the Peshawar High Court is located. It also said that the Honourable Division Bench at Bannu had “showed great resentment” at this incident and asked for the personal appearance before it of the four above-mentioned officials.
