Petition filed in LHC for restoration of Punjab Assembly

LAHORE: A petition was filed in Lahore High Court for the restoration of the Punjab Assembly, ARY News reported on Saturday.

As per details, the petition stated that the advice for the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly was unconstitutional as it did not mention the reasons for dissolving the assembly. 

The petition filed by a citizen further stated that the advice was sent on the orders of a former prime minister and the court that the court can review such advice.

The court can declare the advice unconstitutional and restore the Assembly.

Earlier, the Punjab Assembly stood dissolved constitutionally as Punjab Governor Baligh ur Rehman excused himself from signing the summary, saying he could not become a part of the process.

The Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Elahi forwarded the summary of dissolution and as per the Constitution, the assembly dissolves within 48 hours regardless of the governor’s decision.

It is pertinent to mention here that PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi stated that negotiations with the PDM government have failed and the Supreme Court has been informed of the details.

The Supreme Court had suggested all the political stakeholders talk and agree on a date for the elections.
