Pervaiz Elahi says Mazari cannot sack Punjab Assembly staff

LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi on Monday has said that the deputy speaker exceeded his power by removing staff of the Punjab Assembly, ARY News reported. 

“Dost Muhammad Mazari’s powers were only for April 16 session, which expired,” he added in his reaction to the sacking of the Punjab Assembly secretary, security officer and others.

There is no legal standing of the orders passed by the deputy speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari about sacking the employees.

Pervaiz Elahi said all the employees are on their duty as there were no disciplinary powers given to him on April 16.

On Sunday, Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari had sacked several employees of the Punjab Assembly.

According to the notification, the Punjab Assembly secretary, chief security officer over negligence and supporting the government’s candidate during the election of Punjab CM.

It may be noted that the Punjab Assembly session turned into a battleground on Saturday during the election of the new leader of the house.
