ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has rebuked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for concocting excuses of development projects being impeded in wake of his accountability test, ARY News reported.
In his latest tweets, the PTI chief has lambasted the premier for devising explanations to avoid the accountability.
Pointing out the premier’s contradictory statement, Khan in his tweet said: “NS [Nawaz Sharif] non-democratic mindset reveals itself once again when he declares people will do his ehtesab [accountability]! This twisted logic is negation of democracy.”
He asserts people elect their representatives and expect them to be accountable before law while emphasizing the rule of law, adding the masses do not expect democratic leaders to abuse the law with impunity.
Making religious and western democratic principles part of his statement, Khan emphasized that be it Islamic or Western democratic traditions, both uphold the norm of all people of the society being accountable and do not discriminate them with regard to law of the land.
Laying emphasis on strengthening the institutions, the PTI opined that development only happens when institutions become strong and leaders are incorruptible and present themselves for accountability before law, implying that development should not be regarded as growth of infrastructure.
He further asserted that elections are a central pivot of democracy, so as the rule of law and accountability, including of the elected representatives.
