KARACHI: At least eight people, four women among them, were killed while several others were injured when a passenger van crashed into a truck near Nooriabad on Monday.
Rescue sources said the ill-fated van was on its way from Karachi to Naushahero Feroze when it met accident near Nooriabad. The powerful collision between the van and truck left five people dead on the spot while several others injured.
After being informed of the accident, rescue teams and local police arrived immediately at the site of the accident and shifted the dead and injured to a nearby hospital.
Later, three of the injured succumbed to their injuries while being treated at the hospital, increasing the death toll to eight, said a rescue official, adding that the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
A police official said all the deceased and injured belonged to the same village and they were returning home from Karachi where they arrived after performing Umrah.
Earlier on November 20, at least 20 people were killed and seven others injured when a coal-laden truck collided with a passenger van on Shah Hussain bypass near Waris Goth in Khairpur district of Sindh.
According to initial reports, the truck was overtaking the passenger van when it lost control and turned over on the van.
The van was en route to Sukkur from Khairpur when it met the deadly accident.
