EXCLUSIVE: 4 Pakistani university students develop mobile game app on ‘spy pigeon’

A Pakistani has developed a mobile game app based on the ‘spy pigeon’ trend that has emerged in recent days after Indian authorities arrested a pigeon that flew from Pakistan into a border village on May 29 and detained it on the charge of spying. The game is called ‘Spy Pigeon Bird Shooting’ and can be downloaded from Google Play. It is around 27 MB in size and has been developed by a team of four young men by the name of Atif Mahmood, Muzammal Hussain, Awais Amjad and Nabeel Akram.

In an exclusive interview with demo.arynews.tv they said that they were all residents of Bahawalpur and students at Islamia Univerrsity. They said that the game has been designed for Android and has been developed in Unity 3D software.

Because of its violent content, the game has been rated for users who are 16 years or older.

The

trend #IfIWereAPigeon was created soon after reports came in that Indian police in a border village in the district of Pathankot in Punjab had ‘detained’ a pigeon and had registered this in their diary as a “suspected spy”. Soon after that, many Pakistanis took to social media and created all kinds of memes and posts on the topic, most of them mocking fun at India’s equating a pigeon with a spy. They also included many illustrations and posts jokingly talking about the ISI having a special battalion of pigeons, a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Indian action against the said pigeon.

Social media enthusiasts in Pakistan first ran the trend #PigeonVsIndia but as the fun was not over after India kept the bird in custody, Pakistanis took on Twitter to mock the neighbour.

Humour, sarcasm and all sorts of memes landed on Twitter with the hashtag.
