KARACHI: Pakistani and Russian navies participated in a joint exercise in the northern Arabian Sea, a spokesman of Pakistan Navy said.
The two ships of Russian Navy also visited Karachi Port and participated in the joint Pak-Russian naval anti-piracy drills called Arabian Monsoon-2018.
Russian Northern Fleet’s Severomorsk Anti-Submarine Ship also participated in the active phase of the drills in northern Arabian Sea with Pakistan Navy.
The Russian ships warmly welcomed while on the port call of Karachi, a Pakistan Navy spokesman said.
Russian Navy officers called on the field commander of Pakistan Navy, spokesman said. They also paid respects at the mausoleum of the father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam and laid floral wreath.
The drill with the Russian Navy was meant to improve the capability of joint operations, the Navy spokesperson said.
The relations between the two countries will create new opportunities of mutual cooperation, he further said.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan’s Naval Chief had recently visited Russia.
The Pakistan Army and the Russian military also held joint military drills in the mountains of Pakistan from October 21 to November 4.
More than 70 troops from Russia’s southern military district participated in the drills.
Pakistan and Russia have stepped up cooperation in the defence sector since 2014 when the two countries signed an agreement for boosting bilateral ties.
