Pakistan ready to expand trade, economic ties in SCO region

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Sartaj Aziz on Tuesday said Pakistan was ready to expand mutually beneficial trade, economic cooperation and connectivity in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) region.

“Pakistan encourages trade and transit through its territory as it is upgrading infrastructure, roads, railways and ports,” he said while talking to SCO General Secretary Rashid Alimov in Islamabad.

He said country was open to become conduit for linking Eurasian landmass, China, Russia and Central Asia with the Arabian Sea.

Sartaj Aziz said that CPEC will provide natural connectivity to SCO member States and was already connected to six routes of SCO through the nodal point of Kashgar.

He said that CPEC-SCO connectivity would further enhance economic cooperation and special economic zones along the corridor will spur growth and economic opportunities for the entire region.

Rashid Alimov said that the full membership of Pakistan in SCO would greatly enhance the development prospects of the entire region.
