PARIS: The Pakistan Embassy in France is organising the first ever international conference on mountains of Pakistan on Thursday, October 25 in Paris.
The conference aims to highlight the opportunities for mountaineering, trekking, skiing, rock climbing, paragliding and kayaking and to discuss eco-tourism and sustainable development of the mountains.
The event is being held at ‘Maison de l’UNESCO’ Paris, and more than five hundred enthusiasts and practitioners of alpinism and adventure sports are expected to attend the conference.
Many tour operators and journalists of Pakistan and France have also been invited to attend the conference.
The highlight of the conference are the three thematic panel discussions: “Conquering the Heights”, “Discovering New Adventures” and “Tourism: Sublime & Sustainable”.
World renowned mountaineers, adventure sports specialists and experts on eco-tourism and sustainable development are part of these three panel discussions.
A special award ceremony “Spirit of Mountaineering Award” by the British Alpine Club to recognise the daring rescue operations of Pakistani pilots saving foreign mountaineers is also part of the programme.
The conference will culminate with the performance of Pakistani famous instrumental band ‘Khumariyaan’ and traditional Pakistani dinner.
Specially prepared documentaries highlighting tourism opportunities of Pakistan will also be screened during the conference.
A number of activities have also been arranged on the sidelines of the conference including stalls by leading Pakistani tour operators, a virtual reality show to experience paragliding over the mountains of Pakistan with famous French paragliders Antoine Gerard, and a photo booth giving guests an opportunity to take a photo in front of Pakistani mountains.
