ISLAMABAD: Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) has contributed Rs2.62 million in Supreme Court and Prime Minister of Pakistan Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dam Fund realising the dire consequences of depleting water resources.
Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director OPF Dr Amer Sheikh called on overcoming the water crisis for the prosperous future of the country.
“It is high time to work as a nation and overcome water scarcity through a national resolve and construct a better and prosperous Pakistan for our future generations.”
It is worth mentioning here that the staff and officers of OPF voluntarily contributed their one and two days salary respectively for this noble cause.
Yesterday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) contributed 3.4 million rupees for construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams.
All the officers donated two-day salary while other staff members deposited one-day salary to the fund for the dams.
The fundraising for construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams has reached Rs 6.4 billion, according to the latest figure on Monday.
The collection for dams’ construction recorded a slight surge after Prime Minister Imran Khan on addressed the nation on September 7, and appealed to help Pakistan avert looming water crisis and donate for construction of dams.
The
Fund has been established by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on the directions of the Supreme Court. All the commercial and micro-finance banks, and field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation have opened the Fund account to receive donations in cash, and through cheques, pay orders and demand drafts at all their branches across the country.Donors can also make online donations to the Fund through internet banking, automatic teller machines (ATM) and other alternate delivery channels (ADC) using IBAN of their respective bank.
The banks have sent the IBANs of the Fund account to their clients through SMS alerts, while the bank-wise list of IBANs is also available at the SBP’s web page.
Citizens can also donate Rs10 to the CJP’s dam fund by typing “dam” and sending the SMS to 8000 which will deduct the amount from the phone’s credit.
The donations can also be made through credit and debit cards from anywhere in the world by clicking the “Online collections for Supreme Court Diamer Bhasha & Mohamand Dams Fund” on the SBP’s web page.
The overseas Pakistanis having PKR accounts in Pakistan can also make donations in the Fund through the internet banking facility of their respective banks.
