ISLAMABAD: The joint opposition is set to hold a protest demonstration today against alleged rigging in the July 25 polls outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) premises here.
The opposition parties, comprising Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (Fazl) and others, will record their protest outside the ECP as part of their plan to aggressively pursue the issue of vote rigging inside and outside the parliament.
PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and leaders of the other opposition parties will participate in the protest.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Sirajul Haq will not join the protesters today.
The law enforcement agencies have chalked out a special security plan to prevent protesters from entering red zone as only political leaders will be permitted to march up to the ECP headquarters.
Calling their group ‘Pakistan Alliance for Free and Fair Election’, the opposition leaders have finalized their terms of reference that includes staging protests, within and outside parliament, strategy for contesting elections of Prime Minister, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, prepare a white paper to expose the alleged rigging, manipulation and malpractices during July 25 elections, suggest names to establish a Parliamentary Commission for it.
