Okara: Boat capsizes in Sutlej river, eight on board die

OKARA: Eight dead bodies were retrieved after a boat capsized in Sutlej river in Okara district near Haveli Lakha, citing local officials ARY News reported on Monday.

The boat carrying around 30 people of Haveli Lakaha,drowned in the Sutlej river at Malhu Sheikha area of the district, the sources said.

The rescuers saved 13 people of the drowned boat, Deputy Commissioner Okara Maryam Khan told the media.

The ill-fated boat was said to be drowned due to overloading of passengers.

The passengers of the boat were going for condolence of a relative when the boat drowned in the mid river.

The local volunteers tried to save and rescue the passengers of the boat. The rescue teams, when reached to the point of the incident, were lacking modern gears for the rescue operation.

Scores of the people drowned in the incident were still untraced.

The identities of several deceased were not immediately established.
