ISLAMABAD: The government has announced to reopen furnace-based oil power plants to resolve power crisis in Punjab and Balochistan.
Besides, reopening furnace-based oil power plants, the Chashma Nuclear Power plant has also started producing electricity after necessary technical and security protocol, said a press release by the National Transmission and Distribution Company (NTDC) on Friday.
The Chashma Nuclear Power plant was earlier closed due to tripping, the statement said.
The NTDC had earlier stated in its statement that the plant was tripped due to smog. The unprecedented severe smog posing serious challenge to the national transmission system and the Power Division and the authorities are closely monitoring the situation, the NTDC press release stated earlier.
However, the Atomic Energy Commission spokesperson clarified that the Chashma nuclear power plant was closed due to a fault in the NTDC system and not due to smog.
The NTDC statement further added that the special teams and lines formations have been deputed by the authorities to meet any emergent situation due to the weather conditions.
Inspecting of all high transmission lines has been stepped up by the NTDC, the press release added.
Earlier, under as a step of austerity on the directions of the federal government, the power sector had closed all expensive furnace oil and diesel run power plants of a cumulative capacity of 4250MW.
