KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IG) Sindh AD Khawaja on Thursday said in a statement that no police officer was barred from attending a meeting chaired by Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal – after assuming the charge – ARY News reported.
The IG Sindh dispelled a sentiment by some political quarters that he had asked police officers to take permission for attending the meeting of Sindh Home Minister.
However, he said that it is mandatory for the police officers to report at their concerned headquarters when they are performing duties in other districts of the province.
In a statement, AD Khawaja stated that his orders were in accordance with the instructions of higher authorities. “Some quarters are creating false impression for ulterior motives”, the statement added.
Earlier, there were reports suggesting that the Sindh IG had barred police officers from attending the home minister’s meeting without his explicit permission.
It is worth mentioning here that the provincial government in March had surrendered the services of the IG back to the federal government but the move was stayed after social activists petitioned the Sindh High Court over the matter.
The high court issued a stay order against the government decision and the case has been under hearing in the court.
