Remembering the legendary Nazia Hassan on her 15th death anniversary

Nazia Hassan, also called the “Nightingale of Pakistan” and one of the pioneers of pop music in Pakistan, was born to Baseer Hassan and Munizeh Hassan on 3rd April, 1965 in Karachi.

She arrived in the entertainment scene as a child artist in Pakistan Television (PTV) but her career sky-rocketed when she sang “Aap Jesa Koi” which was included in the Bollywood film “Qurbaani”.


The song won her the Filmfare award for Best Female Playback Singer, a feat which was one of a kind at that time for a Pakistani. Moreover, she also holds the unique record of being the youngest winner of a Filmfare award for Best Female Playback Singer.


Her album titled “Disco Deewane” was released into 14 countries and also broke many records. She also collaborated with her brother Zohaib in many of her songs.

Star/Boom Boom also became a big hit and strengthened her uniqueness which the pop star had with the youth of her age. She was also glamorized by the media for her elegance, style, beauty and her voice.



Nazia’s album Camera Camera was her last and the legend started philanthropic

work by joining Department of Political and Security Council Affairs at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, working there for two years. Nazia also established the organization BAN (Battle Against Narcotics) to fight abuse of drugs in Karachi.


Nazia Hassan acquired Business Administration and Economics degree from Richmond American University in London and was also a lawyer. She is also a recipient of Pride of Performance award, the highest civilian award of the country.

She tied a knot with businessman and her son Arez was born in 1997.

Nazia Hassan lost her battle with lung cancer and passed away on August 13, 2000.

It is of no doubt that the singer will always remain alive in the heart of the nation and her hits are still listened to this date.
