KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has arrested four accused nominated in an investigation being conducted on allegations of corruption in Fishermen’s Cooperative Society.
The NAB officials conducted a raid at FCS office, seized records, recorded statements and arrested four accused namely Gul Muneer (current marketing manager), Abu Bakar (former marketing manager), Shaukat Baloch (former audit manager) and Haji Wali Muhammad (Former manager Society).
The accountability watchdog is conducting investigation against former chairman Fishermen’s Cooperative Society Nisar Morai, Sultan Qamar and his other accomplices on allegations of more than 400 illegal appointments and embezzlement of funds worth over Rs 500 million.
Raids at various areas of Karachi are underway for arrest of other suspects.
Last year, Rangers handed over former chairman of Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) Dr Nisar Morai to police after completion of 90 days remand granted by an anti-terrorism court.
The Rangers alleged that besides his involvement in other crimes, the suspect was also actively involved in helping and funding the gang warfare in Lyari.
Dr Morai, believed to be an important figure of the Sindh PPP, was appointed chief of the FCS in a controversial manner in January 2014.
He mysteriously disappeared soon after the paramilitary force had arrested FCS vice chairman Sultan Qamar Siddiqui and others in June 2015. Later, Siddiqui, along with his brother and an aide, were handed over to police and named in the Safoora Goth bus carnage case for allegedly providing arms to assailants.
