NA opposition boycotts session over PIA privatization ordinance

According to details, government’s decision to privatize Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has unified opposition parties.

In his address with today’s session presided by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah said the ordinance is in contrast with the constitution and the law, adding, “We will not accept what the rulers dictate”.

He said that bringing the ordinance after summoning NA session was against rules; such decisions should be made in Council of Common Interests and the Parliament.

Shah lamented that offices of the PIA were opened overnight and it was registered under the Company Act.

PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, AML chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed and others also strongly criticized the decision of privatizing the national flag carrier and demanded the ordinance be suspended immediately.

“The government should abandon sale of profitable institutions,” they demanded.

Opposition parties warned of protest and boycott of the session on daily basis, if the government did not withdraw PIA Corporation Conversion Ordinance.
