Murad orders provincial departments to expedite projects

It was also decided to construct a bridge on the River Indus to connect Kandhkot with Ghotki which would be built on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis and will be inaugurated in November.

The bridge will be two-kilometre long and would have a 10 kilometre approaching road from Ghotki and 13 kilometre from Kandhkot, and will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs7 billion.

The Chief Minister said that there was severe traffic particularly of heavy goods transport from Punjab. Therefore, there was a dire need to construct a bridge on the River Indus to connect Kandhkot with Ghotki to divert traffic from the national highway.

Minister for Planning and Development Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani proposed that the just the construction of the bridge would

further increase traffic pressure on Kandhkot, and therefore a bypass on Kandhkot-Thul road should be constructed to connect it with the Indus Highway. The proposal was approved by the Chief Minister who ordered to initiate work on it.

Murad directed the P&D department to work out the expenditures on the schemes including the 134.5 kilometre Nawabshah-Ranipur road, and submit reports to arrange the funds for the projects. “I would provide funds but I want to see this road completed by end of this financial year,” he said.

The chief minister also directed the Works & Services Department to repair Link Road between National Highway and Super Highway in Karachi on an urgent basis as it carries the industrial traffic between of Steel Mills and Port Qasim industrial areas.
