Mulki Cup Polo Tournament kicks off in Chitral

CHITRAL: The “Mulki Cup Polo Tournament” officially kicked off on Friday at the polo ground in Chitral after a colorful inauguration ceremony was held in DC Office Chitral.

The event will conclude on May 13 and is being held under aegis of the district administration Chitral.

ADC Chitral Minhasuddin, DPO Chitral Mansoor Aman, Commandant Chitral Scouts, and President Polo Association Chitral unveiled the trophy.

Afterwards the polo players and guests danced on local music and went to the polo ground. As many as 52 polo teams are participating in the tournament.

Chitral is rich in terms of tangible cultural heritage that has given a starkly colour to the lifestyle of the inhabitants of the region.

ADC Chitral chanted the motto for polo “Let other people play at other things – the king of games is still the game of kings” and the tournament started.

The first six games were played and a large number of spectators enjoyed the match at maiden day of the event.

It is worth to mention here that Deputy Commissioner Chitral Irshad Sodhar, in order to preserve the culture, had decided to revive traditional festivals including the centuries-old Mulki Cup Polo Tournament which was discontinued since 1968.
