Mufti Qavi vows to improve prison conditions after securing bail

MULTAN: Mufti Abdul Qavi – who rose to fame for his controversial photos with slain social media icon Qandeel Baloch – on Wednesday said he would put his due efforts to improve prison conditions.

Talking to press here after getting released on bail, the cleric said he witnessed the problems himself faced by the prisoners during his detention.

He said he would extend his maximum cooperation to the families of prisoners if they contact him while announcing to form an executive committee to resolve the issues faced by the prisoners. Qavi was released on bail lately after spending a month in physical and judicial remand.

The cleric also announced to prepare a five-point agenda for resolving the prevalent issues in prisons, besides improving the living conditions of prisoners.

In response to a question, Qavi said he was booked in an open-and-shut case and the ‘false’ charges would be evident to everyone upon submission of a charge-sheet.

It is apropos to highlight here that a district and sessions court granted bail to Qavi on Tuesday (yesterday) just a day after extending his judicial remand.

On Oct 30, the father of Qandeel Baloch informed a magisterial court that his daughter was killed at the behest of cleric Mufti Abdul Qavi.

Qandeel’s father, Muhammad Azeem, told the court that Mufti Qavi was responsible for his daughter’s murder and added he would not forgive those behind her murder.

Qandeel Baloch was murdered by her brother, Waseem, in Multan on July 15, last year. The suspect stated he killed his sister for she “brought disgrace on the family”.
