Monsoon to begin in Pakistan from June last week: met office

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted relief for the people of Pakistan with the likelihood of monsoon season to kick off from the last week of June.

After facing extremely hot and dry temperatures for weeks, the monsoon rains are likely to put an end to the sweltering summer in Pakistan.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), north Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir will receive more than the average rainfall in this monsoon spell. Whereas, Sindh and Balochistan, will receive lesser rainfall than average, the weather department forecast said.

From July to August, the southern parts of the country will be under the spell of monsoon rains, including Karachi, as per forecast.

The weather monitoring department has also warned of a threat of urban flooding. The Met office has briefed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and advised of preparations to meet any contingency during the upcoming rainy weather.

In this regard, the National Highway Authority has also taken steps for the construction and restoration of different roads across the country including Karakoram Highway, Gilgit-Skardu Road, Chitral Road, Rawalpindi to Murree road and Naran road among others ahead of the beginning of monsoon in the country.
