ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Asad Umar on Wednesday said the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government is working towards an economic revival to make the country self reliant, reported ARY News.
Addressing a gathering in Islamabad, the minister stated that talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have been in progress. “The money bill will not burden the public but will be focused on exports, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and promotion of the industrial sector.”
Umar added that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) holds a strategic status for Pakistan to improve its connectivity with the regional countries and beyond to reap the fruits of opportunities in South and Central Asia.
“We not only want to reach North and South through CPEC but also approach towards the West to achieve maximum opportunities of the socio-economic development,” he said. “Pakistan intends to be a valuable contributor to supplement the benefits of this vital project.”
The finance minister also said Pakistan is working on a plan to bring forward other parties to invest in various projects along the proposed CPEC route to accelerate economic activities and jobs for our youth.
He urged other countries of the region to reap the benefits of CPEC and added that Pakistan’s friends such as Saudi Arabia, China and the United Arab Emirates have generously supported the country in dealing with the current account and fiscal deficit crises.
“We are thankful to our friends but our next priority is to take all corrective measures to revamp national institutions on strong footings so that we are not put into a such a situation again where we feel the need for an emergency financial support from abroad,” he concluded.
