Modi visits Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum in Dhaka

Modi visited the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhaka dedicated to the founder of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Sheikh Mujib, the head of Awami League, led the national independence movement in 1971, which resulted in secession of then eastern part of Pakistan to become Bangladesh.

Indian Prime Minister on his twitter account @PMOIndia has posted ” Pictures from the house where history was scripted by Bangabandu”.

Indian Prime Minister will conclude a landmark land swap agreement with Bangladesh to settle a border dispute.

The deal actually endorsed by Bangladesh in 1974 but India’s parliament last month gave its approval. A joint ratification ceremony between Modi and his counterpart Sheikh Hasina will be held today.

It calls for the transfer of 111 border enclaves to Bangladesh in exchange for 51 that will become part of India.

Under the agreement, the countries will exchange territories in India’s northeastern states Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and eastern West Bengal. People living in the enclaves will be allowed to choose to live in India or Bangladesh, with the option of being granted citizenship in the newly designated territories, and the enclaves would effectively cease to exist.
