MMA nominates Fazlur Rehman’s son for NA deputy speaker slot

ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), an alliance of major religio-political parties of the country, has nominated Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s son Asad Mehmood as its candidate for the position of deputy speaker of the National Assembly. 

According to the MMA spokesman Shah Owais Noorani, during a meeting of the alliance held under the chairmanship of the MMA chief Fazlur Rehman, a consensus was reached on nomination of his son Asad Mehmood for the slot.

It is pertinent to mention here that a multi-party conference of the opposition parities, which suffered defeat at the hands of the PTI, had decided that the PML-N will nominate any of its MNAs-elect for the prime minister slot while the PPP for the position of speaker and the MMA for the deputy speaker slot.

PML-N leader Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday said the party has finalised the name of its president Shehbaz Sharif for the prime minister slot.

The joint opposition in order to give tough time to the PTI has finalized its terms of reference that includes planning protests, within and outside parliament, strategy for contesting elections of Prime Minister, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, prepare a white paper to expose the alleged rigging, manipulation and malpractices during July 25 elections, suggest names to establish Parliamentary Commission for it.
