KARACHI: The price of milk has reportedly increased by fifteen rupees per litre in Karachi as no progress has been made in talks between the dairy farmers and local administration, ARY News reported.
Milk is being sold at Rs100 per litre in various party of the city. This is likely to increase further woes for city dwellers who struggle to make their ends meet for the essential commodity.
“People utilise milk a lot. If it is increased then how will the poor be able to afford him,” a elderly citizen told ARY News. “It is become increasingly difficult to afford who buys even just half a litre of milk,” said another citizen.
Last month, the Sindh High Court directed the Karachi commissioner to ensure the sale of loose milk in the city at the officially fixed rate of Rs85 per litre.
The court had also directd local authorities to submit the criteria for fixing per litre price of fresh milk and other dairy products.
However, the directives of the commissioner and the SHC seemed to be flouted as many dairy sellers were charging Rs100 per litre for the essential commodity.
Dairy farmers have expressed their inability to sell at the fixed price saying that that they were suffering financial losses by selling fresh milk at Rs85 per litre.
Commissioner Karachi had earlier warned that strict action would be taken against those flouting regulations.
