ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister nominee Mehmood Khan on Thursday said that rumours surrounding his nomination are false and he is only party chief Imran Khan’s choice, ARY News reported.
Addressing media in Islamabad, the soon to be chief minister maintained that rumours are doing rounds on social media that his nomination was backed by a lobby within PTI led by Pervez Khattak are untrue.
“I am only backed by my party chief Imran Khan,” said Mehmood Khan.
Khan also answered reporter’s questions about his financial assets and his record as KP’s former sports minister.
Mehmood Khan, who was elected from PK-9 Swat-VIII constituency of KP Assembly, was chosen to lead the KP assembly as CM by PTI chief Imran Khan on Wednesday.
As the party again gained majority in the KP Assembly after July 25 polls, it held consultative sessions at chairman Imran Khan’s residence in Bani Gala attended by large number of party workers and prospective candidates.

Rumours doing rounds in Islamabad suggested that there were two lobbies within the party’s KP chapter wanting to bring their own chief minister. Pervez Khattak, the former chief minister, was backing Mehmood Khan while the other lobby was backing Atif Khan.
It is pertinent to note here that Imran Khan-led PTI emerged as the biggest party in the center, KP and Punjab and is about to form governments.
