ISLAMABAD: Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari on Tuesday said that the Muslim community in European states had been facing the impediments to practice their religion freely and they had been deprived of basic human rights.
“We do have the serious issues in this regard and everyday human rights situation is becoming worse,” she said during a meeting with a delegation of European Union headed by Jean-François Cautain Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan in Islamabad.
The delegation was comprised of Political Counsellor Frank-Olivier Roux and Human Rights Counsellor Javeria Kabani and others.
Shireen Mazari expressed grave concerns over the violation of basic human rights and seizing the religious freedom by some European states against their Muslim citizens.

She urged the international community to take prompt action in this regard and to play a decisive role not only in seeking an end to the violation but to restore and protect their human rights in the pursuance of the Human Rights European Convention.
The minister briefed the delegation about the prevailing human rights situation in the country and said that all the minorities in Pakistan had religious freedom and they were enjoying complete freedom as equal citizens of the beloved nation.
Jean-François Cautain appreciated the steps of the government especially the Ministry of Human Rights for the protection and promotion of human rights and successful awareness campaign about women’s right to inheritance.
Earlier in a message on National Minorities Day, Prime Minister Imran Khan vowed to implement the vision of the founder of the nation with regard to religious minorities.
He said this day marked reiteration of the promise to work for the welfare of minority communities dwelling in Pakistan.
“Our minorities’ love for the country is exemplary and unquestionable. They have rendered exemplary services in national life since creation of Pakistan,” Khan said.
