Marriyum expresses concern over reports that JIT is still active

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has expressed serious concern over reports that the Panama Leaks case Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was still active, despite submitting its final report in the Supreme Court.

In a statement, she said the JIT should have formally sought more time from the Supreme Court if it could not complete its work.

The minister of state said that the government would not accept any addition to the volume -10 of the JIT report after Monday last, which was the final date for JIT to complete its task.

She said the JIT ceases to exist after submission of its final report to the apex court.

It is pertinent here to mention that the damning report of the probing team has unearthed an offshore company which it said was being managed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, while the PM had been consistently denying having any offshore company. The investigation team has also recommended the apex court to file reference against the prime minister and his two sons under NAB Ordinance.

Nawaz has repudiated the JIT’s damning report. The PM has reiterated that he would not resign and contest the probing team’s findings in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
