Man stops Sheikh Rasheed outside Parliament, alleges him of owing money

ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed had a scuffle outside the Parliament House here with a man claiming to be his creditor, ARY News reported on Thursday.

The man has been identified as Malik Noor Awan who intercepted Rashid at Gate 1 of the parliament building by demanding hefty payment of Rs2.2 million allegedly pending on the AML chief.

Awan claimed that the legislator has bought a vehicle from him but did not pay him the amount owed. He repeatedly stopped flustered lawmaker from entering the parliament house and stepping away from the situation. However, Awan’s claims could not be verified immediately.

According to our reporter Azhar Farooq, the man entered parliament premises without an entry pass and security guards detained him after the scuffle with AML chief Sheikh Rasheed, intervening in the matter.

Soon after the incident, Rasheed raised the issue during Parliament proceeding where he complained that he was harassed for false allegations and the incident proved his earlier statement about the house being unsafe.

Rasheed also called on Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar to discuss the event. The minister ordered measures for the security of the AML lawmaker in accordance with directions issued by the National Assembly speaker after the incident.

The AML chief also filed a case at the Secretariat Police Station on harassment and attacked outside Parliament by Malik Noor Awan.
