LHC recommends larger bench to hear plea over Model Town tribunal

The petitioner seeking to stop single-judge inquiry tribunal from holding proceedings on Model Town incident.

The bench observed that the key constitutional points have been raised in the petition, which required formation of a larger bench for the hearing.

The petitioner in his arguments had earlier said that the constitution of inquiry

tribunal comprising judges of superior courts was against the honour of the judiciary. He said several judicial commissions were constituted in the past but their recommendations were never implemented which raised question on the independence of judiciary.

The petitioner had sought the court order for dissolution of the inquiry commission.
