LHC fixes hearing of Shahbaz Gill’s petition against police, FIA

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has fixed the hearing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Shahbaz Gill’s petition against the police and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), ARY News reported on Thursday.

A two-member bench of the LHC led by Justice Jawad Hassan will hear Shahbaz Gill’s petition against the police and the FIA.

The petitioner stated that the interior ministry put his name to the Exit Control List (ECL) on October 17, 2022. It added that Gill was not involved in any kind of illegal activities and the high court permitted him to travel abroad.

The DG FIA and IG Punjab were not implementing the court orders and the petitioner sought action against the respondents. It also sought LHC’s order for allowing Gill to travel abroad till the verdict in the case.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill moved Lahore High Court (LHC) against Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), seeking the removal of his name from the exit control list (ECL)

Director-General (DG) FIA and Punjab Inspector-General of Police (IGP) have been made respondents in the petition.

Shahbaz Gill, in the petition, stated that the Ministry of Interior had put his name on the exit control list (ECL) on October 17, 2022. “The petitioner is not involved in any illegal activities”, it stated, terming the move to include his name on ECL ‘illegal’.

It pointed out that the Lahore High Court (LHC) had allowed the petitioner to travel abroad, but FIA and IG Punjab were not following the court’s orders.

He demanded action against the two respondents for not implementing the court’s orders and sought permission for travelling abroad.

It is pertinent to mention here that Shahbaz Gill was barred from flying from the Lahore airport to Saudi Arabia by the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA).
