KP mulls to sack doctors on strike at AMC, after 80 patients die

ABBOTTABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has finally decided to take action against doctors who went on strike at Ayub Medical Complex (AMC) after their strike entered into ninth day as result of which at least 80 patients died, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

The provincial government has directed the hospital administration to compile a list of doctors who have halted rendering their services. The KP government has also been mulling over to arrest the doctors or dismiss them for their reckless attitude towards the patients, sources at AMC said.

The provincial government has also directed to form an inquiry committee to probe the cause of deaths. Legal action against the negligent officers would also be taken including officers from the hospital administration, board of directors, and doctors, sources said.

The doctors have boycotted the OPDs, operation theatres and ward rounds, leaving the patients to suffer. The strike has backing of medical professors, associates, and other assistant professors.

The doctors are demanding immediate suspension of Chairman Board of Governors Javed Panni, Secretary Board Major (retd) Siddiq, Director Brigadier (retd) Ajmal and College Dean Dr. Azizul Nisa Abbasi.

So far, over 80 patients have reportedly lost their lives in last eight days due to unavailability of doctors as the negotiations between the doctors and hospital administration have remained inconclusive.
