KP minorities MPA Soran Singh shot dead

He was a special assistant to Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on minorities’ affairs and was a member of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI).

According to KP Minister of Information Mushtaq Ghani, Chief Minister Khattak strongly condemned the incident and instructed Police to arrest the killers immediately. He said that Soran Singh was a devoted worker of the party.

However, it was premature to say whether it was an act of terrorism or personal enmity. Soran Singh used to travel to Buner occasionally without any security protocol despite being provided security by the provincial government.

Soran Singh was also a doctor, TV anchor and politician. He belonged to the Sikh community and had joined Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf in 2011. Previously, he was associated with Jamaat-i-Islami for nine years. He held one of several seats reserved for religious minorities in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly. He was also hosted a TV program for three years with Khyber News.

Three years ago, another PTI lawmaker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly, Fareed Khan, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Hangu.
