Evidence shows innocent man dubbed mugger killed in Korangi encounter

KARACHI: A video of a police encounter in Korangi has emerged, further proving that cops killed an innocent man in a crossfire with muggers and later termed him their accomplice, ARY NEWS reported.

The video shows that two suspects were trying to snatch a motorcycle in the Korangi area when the victim disembarked a bus. He could be seen moving towards his home when an encounter ensued between the muggers and the police.

The cops exchanged fire with the suspects who were able to flee the scene, however, the man was gunned down in the entire episode.

The police later declared him an accomplice of the suspects, resulting in a furious response from his family members and others who staged a sit-in against the killing outside the Korangi Industrial Area police station.

A later probe found that the four cops-members of the anti-street cell- manipulated the entire incident to declare an innocent man as a mugger and were later put behind the bars for their actions. The SHO of the Korangi Industrial Area was also suspended for not dealing with the matter in an efficient way.

It further emerged after the incident that no criminal record nor weapons were recovered from the custody of the dead and later he was identified as a law-abiding citizen, not a dacoit.

In a similar incident, Arsalan Mehsud, a teenage boy was gunned down in an alleged fake encounter by Orangi Town police on the night of December 6 in Karachi.

The uncle of the deceased student stated in his application that his nephew was returning from the tuition centre along with his friend when he was targeted by the police party.

As a result, Arsalan lost his life, while his friend sustained injuries. The deceased was the son of an official of the Karachi Dumpers Association.

The FIR was registered at the Orangi Town police station on the complaint of Arsalan’s uncle. Policemen named, Tauheed, Umair and former SHO Azam Gopang were booked under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
