Karachi wakes up to a ‘day of mourning’

Public transport was largely absent from the roads, causing traffic to remain slow. Shops and markets spread across the city also remained shut. Save a few petrol pumps, most fuel stations remained close throughout the city.

A day earlier, a worker of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) named Waseem had died in police

custody. Members of the Rabita Committee held a press conference and appealed to transporters and the business community to participate in a peaceful strike for two days. Following his death, Waseem’s body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital in order to conduct a postmortem.
