KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani on Monday issued directives for the deputy commissioners (DCs) to remove encroachments from the tracks of Karachi Circular Railway and restore its stations and booking offices.
The commissioner visited various stations, platforms and booking offices of the Circular Railway and directed the deputy commissioners to take measures with regard to the revival of the railway in coordination with the relevant departments.
Mr Shallwani said the project with regard to the revival of the Circular Railway in Karachi would be implemented at the earliest and trains would soon chug in the city.
On Saturday, the Supreme Court directed the authorities concerned to immediately restore the Karachi Circular Railway.
The direction came during a meeting chaired by Justice Gulzar Ahmed at the apex court’s Karachi registry. He directed the civic authorities to clear all railway tracks across the city of encroachments.
The Divisional Superintendent of the Pakistan Railways informed that most of the railway tracks have been encroached upon. The top court judge directed the deputy commissioners to remove encroachments from the tracks.
