ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court’s Justice Ijazul Ahsan was appointed on Wednesday to monitor the filing of references by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and proceedings in accountability courts against Sharif family, ARY News reported.
According to a notification issued by the apex court, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar appointed Justice Ijazul Ahsan as monitoring judge to supervise the implementation of the judgment in the Panamagate case. Since Justice Ahsan is abroad, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan will perform the responsibilities on his behalf.
Earlier on July 28, a five-judge bench unanimously disqualified former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and directed the NAB to file references against Sharif, his sons – Hassan and Hussain Nawaz – daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar and Ishaq Dar.
In pursuance of the court judgment, the Executive Board of NAB had convened a meeting earlier this week where it was decided to file four references in the accountability courts of Rawalpindi and Islamabad within six weeks.
The references related to the family’s Avenfield apartments in a posh London neighborhood and establishment of Azizia Steel Company and Hill Metal Establishment will be filed against Sharif and his two sons.
The third reference pertaining to the family’s companies will be filed against Hussain, Hassan and Maryam. The fourth will be filed against Ishaq Dar for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
