QUETTA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s (JUI-F) candidate Muhammad Usman Badini has won the by-election in the National Assembly constituency (NA-260) in Chagai-cum-Noshki districts of Balochistan, ARY News reported.
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, Usman Badini received 42,636 votes. Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M)’s Mir Bahadur stood second with 36,622 votes. PkMAP candidate Jamal Khan Tarakai was placed third.
The seat fell vacant after the death of Abdul Rahim Mandokhel of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP). There were seventeen candidates who contested the poll including nine independent candidates.
On Saturday the polling started at 8:00 AM and continued till 6:00 PM without any pause. No untoward incident was reported in any polling station of the largest constituency of Pakistan during the polling time, said the provincial election commissioner.
The constituency is one of the largest constituency in Pakistan in terms of area which comprises areas from three Balochistan districts – Quetta, Chagai and Noshki.
At least 320 polling stations were declared extremely sensitive with regard to security, while 50 were categorized as sensitive. Heavy contingent of Frontier Corps was deployed along with Police, Levis and Quick Response Forces at all polling stations.
The other prominent candidates included Sardarzada Umair Muhammad Hasni of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Dr Munir Ahmed of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and Qari Meharullah of JUI-Nazaryati.
