JIT report produced in a court hearing today said that five accused of the arson attack have been absconders including Hammad Siddiqui, Farooq Saleem and others.
It was also informed to the court that the owners of the factory have recorded their statements to the investigation team at Pakistan embassy in Dubai. “Why the owners not returning back to Pakistan,” the judge asked. ” They are not coming back to Pakistan due to fears on personal security,” the government prosecutor informed the court.
The court issued non-bailable arrest warrants of accused Mansoor and adjourned the hearing.
In a factory fire in Karachi’s Baldia Town on September 11, 2012, around 259 factory workers were burnt to death, while scores of others were injured in the deadliest industrial fire incident in Pakistan.
The case took a dramatic turn on Feb 7 last year when a report by Rangers claimed that a political party was behind the deadly fire that claimed the lives of at least 259 factory workers.
The report prepared by a joint investigation team (JIT) was submitted to the Sindh High Court by an additional attorney general, along with a statement of the deputy assistant judge advocate general of Rangers.
According to the statement a party official of the city’s dominant political party had demanded huge extortion money from the owners of the ill-fated factory.
