According to ARY News, the Indian Railways had earlier informed Pakistan Railways that the Samjhauta Express won’t be able to operate on Monday, as per the train’s regular schedule, citing protests in Amritsar as the cause of disruption.
In another communication, the Indian Railways authorities, however allowed the train operations adding that it was convinced that the unrest in Amritsar was under control and the train operation won’t be affected.
Now the Samjhauta Express, carrying 75 passengers, will leave for India today as per the original schedule.
Samjhauta Express, a twice-weekly train, was started on 22 July 1976 following the Shimla Agreement to connect Lahore to cross border Amritsar in India. This was the only rail connection between the two countries until the reopening of the Thar Express.
