KARACHI: The nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan for NA-243 (Karachi) has been challenged with the respective returning officer (RO).
Khan has submitted nominations from National Assembly constituencies in Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Mianwali. Former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhary has challenged Khan’s papers on the basis of Sita White case.
In an interview couple of days ago, Chaudhary, who is now the president of the Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party, claimed that he has evidence to show that Khan has admitted to being the father of Tyrian White while abroad, but denies the same in Pakistan.
The former CJP subsequently filed a case with the RO against Khan’s eligibility to hold public office under Article 62 (1)(f).
Reports say that the scrutiny of Imran’s nomination papers was then postponed until June 19, which is the last date for the verification.
The June 19 will be the last date for filing appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers.
The last date for appellate tribunals of the ECP for deciding appeals against decisions of returning officers will be June 26.
According to the schedule, the list of validly nominated candidates will be published on June 27, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be June 28.
The ECP will allocate election symbols to candidates on June 29 and the final list of the contesting candidates will be displayed the same day.
