ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said on Friday Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal’s latest statement was aimed at maligning the armed forces of Pakistan.
“Ahsan Iqbal’s latest statement is part of the Dawn Leaks agenda to malign the armed forces of Pakistan and appease the hostile external powers,” he said in a series of tweets.
He held former Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar responsible for accumulating debts on the nation that could not be do away with for generations.
“The Sharif-Dar combine has crushed the nation under debt for generations to come. The Sharif darbaris cannot fool the nation.
“Ahsan Iqbal’s unwarranted attack on ISPR (Inter Services Public Relations) is absurd because the dismal state of Pakistan’s economy is known to the world,” he said.
Ahsan Iqbal in a statement has asked Director General ISPR Asif Ghafoor to refrain from giving statements on economics.
He said that the DG ISPR’s statement had created confusion among world economists. They asked him that why the Army was showing apprehensions on economics, he added.

“DG ISPR should refrain from commenting on national economy. Irresponsible statements could damage Pakistan’s global image,” said the minister while talking to media in Washington.
Talking to a private TV channel, Asif Ghafoor on Thursday said Pakistan’s economy was not bad, but it was not good either. He said Army only gave suggestions to the government from the perspective of their role of security.
He made this statement a day after Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, while addressing the seminar titled ‘Interplay of Economy and Security’ in Karachi on Wednesday, expressed concern over the country’s economic situation.

Gen Qamar said Pakistan’s economy was showing mixed indicators as the growth had picked up, but the debts were also sky high.
While, the interior minister in Washington said Pakistan’s economy was much more stable as compared to the situation in 2013.
